We’re committed to selling our house. We’ve told everyone we’re moving to France. We want to leave a foot in the door in the UK. However, as we start to focus down on the details of how we’re going to make it all happen, the doubt is creeping in… Eek!
“Can we actually make this work?”
“Can we afford it?”
“What if the exchange rates change?”
“What if we cash our house in then fritter the money away renting?”
“What are we going to do with all our stuff?”
“Can we make our business work well enough to fund the lifestyle we want?”
“What if the kids don’t like it?”
“It’s a good job we didn’t decide to do all this in the manic run up to Christmas… Oh wait, we did!”
It’s a horrible feeling when your mind gets into a cycle of doubt and it’s hard to even remember how we felt a few days ago when we were all enthusiastic (were we?!).
When you get into the details, it’s easy to start getting lost in them and focus in every other direction than the goal you’re aiming for. Time to forget the noise and stay focused on the bigger picture. We have to have faith that it’ll work out and that we’ll find a way to keep pushing towards it. Stay tuned to see if this is indeed the case. 😉
DEEP BREATH…
What’s the worst that can happen? We could spend a bit more than we want to? We would have to come back? (There are worse things that could happen, obviously, but let’s not go overboard here.)
Would we regret it if we didn’t give it a go? – I’m not really one for regrets but I think we’ll wish we had if we don’t give it a go.
Why are we doing this? – Because we’ve been wanting to for ages. The time is as right as it is ever going to be. We’ll get to live in an inspirational environment. We’ll have instant access to the activities we enjoy doing as a family. It’s an adventure! We’ll be in the snow! We’ll get powder days! We’ll spend more time outside in nature. The kids will learn French at an early age. They’ll be exposed to new experiences and challenges. We’ll be just down the road from Chamonix, Italy and Switzerland. We’ll get to hike in the summer, swim in pools in mountain streams and jump off rocks. We’ll make new friends who are there to enjoy the same things we enjoy doing. We’ll get to chuck our bikes on lifts and ride downhill all day long. Our friends and family will come to visit and enjoy it with us.
We’re hoping that by following this dream, we’ll be inspired to do even more good things.
We want to lay the foundations for a future where we can divide our time between Morzine and the UK.
Is it worth the risk? Heck yes!

On top of all this, when you put it in perspective and think of the problems and adversity that so many people face, we are so privileged and lucky to be in a position where this is our dilemma. Feeling blessed…
