Bike Park Les Gets opens on Saturday and Crankworx hits town next week!

Things are ramping up big time around here. We’ve returned from the Outer Hebrides to a bustling Les Gets, prepping itself for summer activities. Bike Park Les Gets opens for the whole summer on Saturday, Crankworx launches into action on Wednesday and I’m getting just a little bit EXCITED!

A lot’s happened in a week. The last of the snow that I boarded on just over a week ago has gone, the grass seems to have grown by a foot and we missed out on seeing the top boys of the road biking world visiting Les Gets to battle it out climbing Mont Chery on the first stage of the Criterium du Dauphine.

The bike shops are looking too appealing for my own good with their stables of downhill and enduro rental bikes sitting outside adding fuel to the fire of temptation. It must be like Christmas for the shop guys who are busy opening cardboard boxes of new bikes and stock, stacking the shelves ready for the onslaught of visitors, arriving to watch the best gravity guys and girls on the planet go head-to-head.

The bike lifts and bike park were open for the last couple of weekends but they open for good on Saturday until 4th September and a whole network of lifts and trails will be available across the Portes Du Soleil. Saweet! The Crankworx team are cracking on, putting the finishing touches to their magnificent and insanely massive Slopestyle course but the rain has set them back and there’s been shout-outs on the local ‘Morzine Crew’ Facebook page for extra shapers to register and lend a hand. They’re expecting 25,000 visitors for Crankworx and everyone is praying the rainy weather that’s forecast won’t materialise.

There’s new faces all around town. Hotels, bars and restaurants have reopened, as has the supermarket in town (that’ll make life easier). Signage and logos are flying up left, right and centre, beer deliveries are blocking the pavements, the big screen by the pump track is showing previous Crankworx action on loop, grass is getting chopped and there’s general polishing, plumping and prepping going on all over the place. That quiet inter-season seems like a distant memory. The vibe is most definitely revving up and it’s going to be mental next week!

Relax everybody. The beer’s here! So are the clouds unfortunately…

I’ll be getting our bikes and kit sorted later for an early start in the morning. Well, an early start for me and a bit later for Nina and the kids. Apparently you get 50% off your summer season ticket when you present your winter ones so we’ll need to root those out before we head to the ticket office.

Nina incidentally, has just walked through the door looking a bit blue after going for a morning swim in the swimming lake after the school run. I dipped out. I needed to write this… Bravo Neen!

Anyway. We’ve got a BBQ and a birthday party to go to tonight but I’ll need to be fresh for the morning, so just a couple of beers for me then…  😉
