It was the opening day of the winter 2016 / 2017 season in Avoriaz today! Wahoo! We bundled the kids into school, hot footed it to the Prodains cable car, popped the cherries of our new PDS season passes and hit the slopes!
Since the big snow dump a month ago, there’s not been any more snowfall and most of what was left has melted. Avoriaz is a bit higher and colder and their snow lasted a little longer. The snow crews have done an excellent job, supplementing what they had with state of the art snow making. Whilst not everything was open, there was plenty to go at and it was pretty sweet. It felt so good to be back on the boards.
There were lifts and pistes open from the Lindarets valley, all through town and up to Fornet with access from Prodains and Ardent. We tried out everything that was open beneath blue skies and brilliant sunshine before stopping for coffees and a breather in Lindarets. Refreshed, we made our way back over to the Prodains lift and back down to get on with stuff. I could easily have stayed all day!
If you’re heading up this weekend, the ‘Rock On Snowboard Tour’ is there, with over 30 ski and snowboard brands to try out for free. There’s live music, giveaways and lots of other stuff going on to keep everyone happy. Morzine is also kicking into action with their Christmas market opening in the centre of town from today. Amongst other things, they are apparently having a ‘giant fondue’ so we’ll definitely pop down to check it all out! Keep an eye on our social media for updates throughout the weekend. A great warm up before Les Gets’ season officially begins next Friday… Bring it on, we say!
