Why Les Gets?

Fresh powder on Mouflon, Les Gets

I wrote a post a while back because people kept asking us ‘Why Morzine?‘. Well, since then, we’ve learned more, modified our plans and now we’ve decided we’re moving to Les Gets!

Quite simply: it just fits us better and we love it!

It’s only up the road, and we were looking in Morzine and the surrounding area anyway but the more we find out about Les Gets, the more we like it. It’s only 5-10 mins drive from Morzine. We can still enjoy the benefits of everything it and the rest of the Portes Du Soleil has to offer but Les Gets is quite a bit smaller, tighter-knit and a bit more family orientated which, at this time in our lives, suits us perfectly.

The town itself is higher (1172m) which means that the snow hasn’t suffered quite as badly as it has on the lower slopes of Morzine (1000m) down the road.

Another major factor is that the majority of summer downhill bike trails and lift access are located in Les Gets. More than I had realised and being near those is a must!

I’ve got a bit of a thing for Mont Blanc and it’s jagged ridgeline. Les Gets provides the perfect viewing platform from the top of Mont Chery, Le Ranfoilly or La Rosta. On a clear day you can gaze out over the Grand Massif to the Month Blanc Massif beyond. It’s a truly awe inspiring view and never fails to put things in perspective.

All in all, this place just feels right. Just check out this video!…
