Completion day

Completion day and one of the best days ever!

‘They’ say moving house is up there with wedding days and divorce as the most stressful things to do in life and completion day itself is the culmination of that whole sale/moving process.

Ours was today and it was one of the best days we’ve had in ages! It snowed hard last night and we woke to deep fresh snow and a perfect bluebird day.

Nina caught an early lift and went boarding with Iz on skis. I wandered into town with T to rent him some skis and boots for the rest of the season. It’s a no brainer really. You can rent skis, boots and poles for around €100 for the whole season and if they grow out of them or need a longer ski you can just take them back and swap them over. T and I went and bought a lift ticket and caught the bubble lift up to Chavannes.

We met up with the girls, and for the first time ever, just as we have dreamed about for years, the four of us were up in the mountains for a slide at the same time. It was brilliant! Not high paced action but all of us together winding around the kids’ runs. They have a brilliant kids area in Les Gets with two slopes serviced by magic carpet uplift and another by a rope tow. There’s a fairly gentle button lift that leads to the top of two gentle blues and the ‘Indiens’ run with teepees, music, games and obstacles to challenge the kids as it winds through the forest. There’s also the ‘Milka’ trail, or ‘Piste Mauve’ which is more of the same (obviously sponsored by Milka) with a bell hanging from a post at the bottom that you can whack with a ski stick.

The kids progressed loads and we all got plenty of sunshine and vitamin D that was sadly lacking in the UK this winter. Exhausted, we sat outside one of the restaurants in the sun at lunchtime, pinched ourselves and thanked our lucky stars.

We headed down soon after lunch and back to the sauna.

Our first week has flown by and we’re moving to Essert Romand for a week in the morning but we’d just had one of the best days ever: house sale completed; amazing day on the mountain with the kids; blue skies; fresh snow; fine food; perfect!..

Then a text from Nina’s Mum: “Everything is under control but… Dad’s in hospital”.

Oh…
